A year or so ago we contacted Francis to restore a small table that had been in the family for the past 130 years. Solid mahogany and showing many signs of being well used, Francis spent an entire day bringing it back to its original glory. Looked absolutely wonderful and will hopefully go for another 130 years.



More recently we bought two Grange cherrywood occasional tables at auction. Both were badly stained and marked. Yet again Francis used his very considerable skill over the course of a day’s labour to bring them back to life. Both tables are now in situ and are fabulous.It’s a real joy to see a true craftsman bring his years of expertise to bear on objects that have seen better days. He’s a pleasure to deal with, responsive, polite and reliable. In terms of cost his prices are extremely reasonable.

No hesitation at all in recommending him if you’re looking for a french polisher who delivers a great service.

1,My wife had badgered me into extending our Georgian dining table by inserting a not-quite-matching leaf, so I was resigned to the end result’s being a disaster. Francis Gould turned up (10 minutes late; heart sank a bit further), set up his stall of lotions and potions, and went to work. Ten hours later he was still working even though he’d given a fixed price on the basis that the job would take a day. By some magic he overcame every defect. He finished late in the evening. I could hardly believe my eyes. The table looks even better than it did in its heyday. He’s a true craftsman.
